Our production portfolio encompasses two coal mining clusters & beneficiation plants situated in the heart of Mpumalanga, the province of the rising sun. The coal mines consist of Katlego and Tswelopele mining operations nestled near the towns of Kriel, Bethal, and Hendrina. Our mines are strategically located to optimise production and logistics. With a strong presence in this coal-rich region, we are well-positioned to drive growth, innovation, and excellence in the mining sector.

Katlego Operations

Dorstfontein East Underground

The operation is located within the Dorstfontein Mine East Complex (DCME). The operations started as an opencast in 2011, transitioning to an underground operation in 2021 from the then Pit 2 Opencast mining the S4L. Bochabela has three productions sections. The operation produces a suite of products suitable for both the export and domestic markets.

Dorstfontein East Open Cast

Dorstfontein Coal Mine East (DCME) OC is situated 36 km south of the town of Emalahleni. The mine is 10 km northeast of the town of Kriel. Pit 1 NW-Ext mining the S4L and S2L commenced in November 2020.

Dorstfontein East Riet-Kuil Vhakoni

Rietkuil Vhakoni (RV) is located within the DCME Complex and began coal production in April 2024. RV developed from the Highwall of Pit 1 NW extension mining the S4L, RV currently operates with one CM section. The mine produces 5700 k/Cal for export market. Rietkuil Vhakoni is owned and operated by Overlooked Group.

Dorstfontein West Underground

Dorstfontein Coal Mine West (DCMW) is situated adjacent to the town of Kriel. The coal operations at this site have a rich history, dating back to 1997. The mine operates as an underground mining operation. The mine reached a significant milestone in November 2019, achieving full production capacity with its three CM sections. DCMW predominantly produces 5300 k/Cal for the export market.

Forzando North

Forzando North Mine is located 15 km north of Bethal and 55 km southeast of Emalahleni. The mine’s rights are contiguous with the Forzando South Mining area. First coal production began in 1995 from S4L operations, yielding a 5700 k/Cal product.

Tswelopele Operations

Overlooked Colliery Underground

Overlooked Colliery is situated near Bethal, with stockpile capacity in Emalahleni. Established in 2016 as an open-cast mine, it transitioned to an underground operation in 2019. The average seam height is 2.5 meters, and the mine produces 5300 k/Cal for the Eskom market.

Tumelo Coal Mine

Tumelo Coal Mine is situated in Mpumalanga Province, 15km north-west of the town of Hendrina town and 5km south-east of Power Station. Its mining rights in an area of 462.9 Ha over the farm Boschmanskop 154 IS.
